Any recommendations on blog software?  Internal hosting or external hosting?  We're just entering this century and are creating a blog!  Txs.

I came here looking for the same info Joan. We've researched and narrowed it down to Wordpress or typepad.

I got conflicting feedback on hosting versus not hosting. Anyone out there with some feedback to share-or perhaps since your original post, you've uncovered more info?

I created a blog using Wordpress because that seemed to be the quickest.  Here it is.  Perhaps we should move to internal hosting.

I got the following feedback yesterday from another industry resource-this explanation was the reason I was originally leaning toward hosting outside our domain. In addition to being a social media/branding opporutnity, we were thinking hosting outside would aid our organic search linkbuilding strategy.

Personally I think you get some additional exposure by having numerous other blogs.   When doing organic searching having more than one URL with your best information on it is going to take up another spot on the top 10.  This cannot be said when it’s integrated into your web site.  Also external links back and forth will help your ranking.  The last bit is that most people trust “bloggers” that are not associated with the site.  This said you shouldn’t mask your blog as an independent party but you can talk about other issues around your product.

Other thoughts?

We have experimented with blogs off and on for a couple of years.  We have a fairly decent podcast/blog at catholicspotlight.com.  This is externally hosted and that does tend to provide the best seo leverage, however, if you internally host it and put it on a subdomain (ie. blog.yourcompany.com), the search engines will treat this separately in the SERPS.

We use Wordpress for all our blogs.  I've found Wordpress to have the best functionality, support community, and plug-ins (those extra items that can make your blog better without having to program them yourself).  Stephan Spencer, one of the leading seo professionals, also endorses and writes plug-ins for Wordpress.
